Do you know Pinterest is not only a social media platform that you scroll daily to get ideas?

Yes, you heard it right. Pinterest is a search engine that is not only fantastic for viewing and seeing the artworks and photographs of other users, it’s also a great place to promote your own online business as well.

Social media marketing is a big deal these days, and although it might seem elusive to try and deduct exactly how it works. Visual marketing is another big trend — combine the two, and you have Pinterest.

When it comes to selling your handmade products online, there’s so much to think about. Making your products, photographing them, writing products lists. But that’s just the beginning.

YOU ALSO NEED A STRATEGY FOR MARKETING YOUR PRODUCTS AND DRIVING TRAFFIC TO YOUR ONLINE STORE.

So how do you really get noticed on Pinterest? Here we look at 8 ways to use Pinterest to promote your e-commerce store.

1. Set up your business account

For selling and promoting your business on Pinterest, you need to create a business account. If you already have a Pinterest account and haven’t done so yet, convert it into a business account it’s just that simple.

This will give you access to all important tools and features of Pinterest like Analytics, ads, business hub, and all that stuff you need to have to check important insights.

2. Create keyword-rich Boards Related to Your Niche Just for Your Store

Boards can help you rank on google as well as on Pinterest. Name the boards with keywords that fit your business’ niche and descriptions. This makes it easier for followers to find you and your board, as well as be directed to your e-commerce site if they see something they like. You can have other boards with different themes as well, just make sure they all link to your site. Keep the title the same as your store or site name, so it’s obvious and easy to find.

3. Create Hight Quality Stunning Pin Images

Pinterest is a visual platform. For it to work, the images you pin should be visually appealing and sized well.

Note: Pinterest favors vertical images.

>> If you are confused about how the pins should be, I would suggest you spend a few minutes perusing Pinterest and see what images catch your eyes. Likely they are well-lit, have complimentary colors and text, and words that pique your interest.

In addition to resizing images, pinning product photos, experiment with collages and text overlays to create new pins. Tools like Canva make this easy to do. (And they both have apps so you can easily make stunning Pinnable images on your smartphone!

4. Put Links to Pinterest on Your Site

As well as your Pinterest board linking to your site, your site should also link to your Pinterest board.

This can include:

  • Your shop page on your website
  • A downloadable guide
  • Categories of products
  • Blog posts

You can make every image or blog on your site ‘pin-able so that other Pinterest users can share your content, products, even if they are not on your Pinterest but your site.

Wondering How to add links to your pins?

Go to your business hub in your account and click the red arrow in the upper right hand-hand corner and then click on “Create Pin”.

From there, you’ll be taken to a new screen. Upload the image you created, choose the URL, and write a Pin description.

5. Write Keyword-Rich Product descriptions

As we discussed earlier, Pinterest is a search engine just like google.

People go there with the intention of finding specific information. For example, I’m more likely to go to Pinterest to find recipes than I am to hit up Google or even a recipe website.

Write product descriptions with words that your customers would be searching for.

Pull out keywords from the product description you already have written and then look for additional keywords by using Pinterest search.

In the Pinterest search bar, type words that you use to describe your products. In this case, since I work for business marketing, I might see what people are searching for on Pinterest when looking for “Business marketing”.

Typing in business marketing I can see that the top search terms are Business marketing, business marketing gifts, business marketing ideas, etc.

Since I don’t work for designs and all that, I clicked on the first term, business marketing. On the next screen I can see at the some of the other popular categories people search for:

from here, I can easily extract keywords that suits my pin or businessand I can craft a description and title easily.

Note: Pinterest description should be written in full sentences, rather than just stuffing a bunch of keywords in there.

6. Share Your Spirit, Not Just Pictures

Pinterest is all about sharing lifestyle, beauty, and fashion content, as well as interesting and engaging features. Make sure that you share the inner spirit, personality, and lifestyle of your business, as this is more appealing and attractive to people than just a picture on a page. Other pinners want to know more about who you are and what makes you special, not just what you sell.

7. Pin Consistently

Pinterest marketing works as a strategy when you do it consistently. You can approach this one of two ways. The first is to devote 15–30 minutes each day to pin. Repin your own products on multiple boards and pin what you find on Pinterest.

Alternatively, you can schedule all of your pins for the week or month on one day using a Pinterest-approved scheduler such as Tailwind.

It saves hours by allowing me to schedule my pins ahead of time. Plus their SmartSchedule tool makes sure your content gets pins at the best times for your audience.

8. Connect and Inspire Your Audience

Pinterest is all about inspiration. Come up with new and creative ideas that have that ‘wow’ factor, to impress and amaze your audience. When drawing attention to your eCommerce store, it can be useful to offer promotions, competitions, coupons, or other special offers in order to not only promote your store but also create interest amongst your customers.

With these 8 tips, you can effectively promote your e-commerce site on Pinterest for better site traffic, and growth of your business.
